Shoso-in Warehouse


"Shōso-in Warehouse (Japanese: 正倉院, Shōso-in)" is the treasure house. The building is in the azekura log-cabin style, with a raised floor (高床式校倉造, Takayuka-shiki Azekura-zukuri), with a raised floor. The Shōso-in Warehouse artifacts connected to Emperor Shōmu (聖武天皇 (Shōmu Tennō), 701–756) and Empress Kōmyō (光明皇后 (Kōmyō Kōgō), 701–760), as well as arts and crafts of the Tempyō period (天平時代, Tempyō jidai) of Japanese history. Shoso-in Warehouse was registered in World Heritage as "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara" in 1998.
Shōsōin today holds around 9000 items, leaving out items that are yet to be classified. While many of the collection are of remainders from the 8th century and are of domestic production, either art or documents, there are also variety of items originating from Tang China. Other material comes from as far as India, Iran, Greece, Rome and Egypt.
