Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area


"Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area (Japanese: 法隆寺地域の仏教建造物)" was registered as one of the first World Heritage in Japan in 1993 years. The registration article of World Heritage is "Groups of buildings of Hōryū-ji Temple" and "Pagoda in Hokki-ji Temple". The place is Ikaruga-cho, Ikoma-gun, Nara Prefecture (Japanese: 奈良県生駒郡斑鳩町). The region with this World Heritage is called, "Ikaruga (斑鳩)", and is a place where Prince Shōtoku (Shōtoku Taishi = 聖徳太子, 573 – 621, People respected most in ancient Japan) built the palace in the Asuka period (飛鳥時代, 538 - 710) with the history.
Hōryū-ji Temple (法隆寺) is a Buddhist temple thought that Prince Shōtoku created seventh century first (607?). This buddhist temple has divided into two buildings in the western part and the eastern part. The western part buildings is the oldest wooden building complex in the world of the in existence.
There is Chugu-ji Temple (中宮寺), Horin-ji Temple (法輪寺), Jiko-in Temple (慈光院) and Fujinoki Tomb (藤ノ木古墳) as a peripheral tourist spot.

  1. JR Horyu-ji Station / JR法隆寺駅 : Horyu-ji Temple is 20 minutes on foot.
